‘Proud 2 Create 10’ Liminal Gallery – The Cupboard

Sandra Art4All was founded by Sandra Hampton in 2016. The studio, known for supporting 12 deaf, autistic and neurodivergent artists are celebrating a decade of creativity, through the joy of making art together.

‘10’ is a take on the familiar "Proud 2 Create" exhibitions, showcasing the work of 12 local artists with a range of learning disabilities, including Autism, Charge Syndrome, Hearing Impairment, and Cerebral Palsy. The exhibitions feature over 150 original pieces of art forming a vibrant collection of drawings, paintings, and photographs with the aim to start discussions around art and our very different abilities.

Over the past 10 years, Sandra has witnessed remarkable transformations, helping artists develop their skills and build self-esteem. With support they have turned the studio’s artwork into a small business, giving the group the opportunity to live the full artistic process. Some of the artists have exhibited at prestigious venues, including the Royal Academy and Turner Contemporary, gaining well-deserved recognition and showing the world the value of autism and neurodivergence.

Sandra Hampton established the studio after the closure of the Royal School for Deaf Children, Margate, where she had been the art teacher. Verbal and signed communication can be difficult for many of the artists due to the range and complexity of their needs. Some may walk into the studio with clear anxieties. The art workshops allow them to express themselves and relax, whilst producing beautiful artwork in a calm and safe rural space.

The artwork exhibited has been created in a variety of mark making methods, utilising several very different techniques and adaptive tools. Some pieces are planned, some are not. Each artist is guided to give them the freedom to make simple choices to create art in their own way giving them a voice that is not normally heard.

Artists receive the majority of the profits from sales of their artwork.

The studio is planning "big celebrations" for its 10th anniversary through 2026, with two further exhibitions in July and August.
